[I've had a few people ask what Nasko and I have been doing all day while Chance is back to work. I thought I'd try to blog about what we did today. It wasn't a super-typical day, as Chance had a funeral and a public-speaking class. He is usually here for lunch and the beginning of naptime as well as supper and the rest of the evening. Here's today though:] 6:00 a.m. - Alarm goes off. Chance and I argue about who should get out of bed and shower first.
6:15 - We're both still in bed. Nasko comes bounding into our room [which was exciting. He's never come looking for us before. We always have to go find him! Yay for attachment and the understanding of permanence!] flips on the light and looks at us all bleary-eyed.
6:20 - Mama loses and has to get up and shower first.
6:45 - Taty cooks breakfast [because, seriously, I married the best man on the face of the earth] while Nasko runs around the living room - jumping on his trampoline, playing his keyboard, and tormenting our very sleep-deprived dog.
7:00 - Wash hands and eat breakfast together. Pray in sign language. ["Thank you, God for food. Amen!"]
7:03 - Nasko finishes eating. He begins to fidget, but luckily for us, we have him in a highchair with a buckle that he has not yet figured out!
7:15 - Chance takes his shower, Mama cleans up breakfast, Nasko attempts to remove his clothes while signing "bath."
7:16 - Mama puts a stop to bathtime and packs our lunches for a picnic at the park. Nasko then puts on socks - one correct and one inside-out - and shoes while still wearing pajamas. He says "Ciao" and blows Mama a kiss. Mama wonders where in the heck he thinks he is going.
8:00 - Mama mistakingly shows Nasko a video of open gym at CheerZone from last week. She says "Do you want to go jump and run?" Nasko spends the next thirty minutes attempting to break out of the house so that he can get in the car to go to the CheerZone. Taty throws Mama an apologetic look, and leaves for work. Never to be seen again.
8:02 - Mama redirects Nasko away from the garage door. Mama also attempts to finish packing lunches.
8:03 - Mama redirects Nasko away from the garage door. Mama also attempts to finish packing lunches.
8:04 - Mama redirects Nasko away from the garage door. Mama also attempts to finish packing lunches.
8:05 - Nasko is quiet. Mama checks his room. He has pulled his hamper out of his closet in order to stand on it and reach the top shelf. On the shelf are some of the gifts Nasko has been given. [We're bringing them out slowly.] Mama decides to appease Nasko by letting him open one. The gift needs batteries. Mama is out of AA batteries. Nasko is not appeased.
8:20 - Mama finally finishes the lunches and tells Nasko to leave the microwave alone for the 13,000th time.
8:21 - Mama helps Nasko get dressed and brush his teeth.
8:30 - Nasko is loaded into the car. He is warned not to try and sit in Mama's seat ["Nasko seat"], not to unbuckle ["no touch"] and not to open his door ["no touch"].
8:31 - Mama revels in the fact that Nasko is contained.
8:31 - 9:00 - Nasko repeatedly practices his new verbal words - "up" and "down" by commanding Mama to raise and lower his window. Mama obliges because he is entertained and communicating.
9:00 - Arrive at the CheerZone, greet Miss Betsy, and attempt to sit in her office chair. [Nasko was one of the favorites in the orphanage. Because he was special, the workers would take him into their offices and let him sit in their office chairs. My son is now OBSESSED with office chairs. Thank you orphanage workers.]
9:01 - Mama puts Nasko in "time-in" for sitting in Miss Betsy's office chair. [Nay, Nasko. No touch. Not ours. Mama says "Nay."]
9:02 - Nasko is jumping on the trampoline. Mama is also jumping on the trampoline.
9:04 - Nasko is running and jumping into the block pit. Mama is also running and jumping into the block pit.
9:06 - Nasko tries to sit in another office chair. Nasko spends another minute in time-in.
9:07 - 10:00 - Nasko continues to run, jump, attempt to sit in office chairs for the entire hour. Mama continues to run, jump, chase Nasko, and put him in time-in. Nasko did try to play ring-around-the-rosey with another little girl. Yay for interaction!
10:00 - Load up into Mama's van and head back to Athens.
10:10 - Pull over to re-buckle Nasko's seatbelt.
10:25 - Pull over because Nasko is biting everything in sight and trying to throw things out the window. [Nasko struggles with the lack of stimulation on car rides. Especially after the large amount of stimulation at open gym, he was having a rough time this morning.]
10:40 - Meet my best friend, Sarah, and her two oldest boys at the park to play. Introduce Nasko to Connor and Finn. Nasko practices saying their names and telling them "hi." Nasko kisses Finn's hand. Finn is creeped out.
10:45 - 11:15 - Play at the park encouraging Nasko to stay on the playground equipment.
11:45 - Eat the lunch that Mama so lovingly packed!
12:00 - Play on the slides, swings, and playground. We see a baby and his family arrive in a wagon. Nasko climbs into the wagon. Mama puts Nasko in time-in [Nay Nasko. Not ours. For the baby. No touch.]
12:02 - Nasko goes down a slide.
12:03 - Nasko climbs into the baby's wagon. Mama puts Nasko in time-in [Nay Nasko. Not ours. For the baby. No touch.]
12:05 - Nasko throws a ball.
12:07 - Nasko climbs into the baby's wagon. Mama puts Nasko in time-in [Nay Nasko. Not ours. For the baby. No touch.]
12:15 - Nasko says "Ciao" and indicates that he's ready to go home.
12:30 - Mama puts Nasko down for a nap. Nasko doesn't fight much, as he is exhausted from his morning.
1:00 - 2:15 - Mama attempts to catch up on Biggest Loser because she must do something mindless that requires no movement. So, she watched other people move and work out.
2:15 - Nasko wakes up!
2:16 - 2:25 - Nasko snuggles with Mama in the recliner while looking at pictures of himself on her phone.
2:25 - Taty drops in momentarily before leaving to do hospital visits and go to his public-speaking class.
2:35 - 3:30 - Nasko rides his trike and Mama walks the entire perimeter of our subdivision (approximately one mile). Mama repeatedly says "No touch" about every mailbox, every car, and every basketball hoop. Nasko is stopped on his trike to complete a time-in every time he does touch one of those items.
3:30 - 5:00 - Nasko and Mama walk to the sports complex and wander around watching high school kids practice softball, baseball, and track. Nasko spends some time in time-in for not holding Mama's hand when asked.
5:00 - Mama heats up Pad Tai from Sarah [thank you Millers!].
5:15 - Mama and Nasko eat.
5:18 - Nasko finishes eating.
5:25 - Mama finishes eating.
5:26 - Nasko cooks "dinner" for Mama. Mama eats air and acts like it's the most delicious thing she's had since Pad Tai. Nasko attempts to fill his dishes with water from the bathroom. Eight times. Mama tells him "No water" every time he even looks toward the bathroom.
5:50 - Nasko asks to ride his bike again. Mama and Nasko take an entire trip around the subdivision again. [For anyone who's counting, this is two miles on his trike. He did two miles yesterday as well.] Mama repeatedly says "No touch" about every mailbox, every car, and every basketball hoop. Nasko is stopped on his trike to complete a time-in every time he does touch one of those items.
7:00 - Mama drags Nasko inside and says "Night-night bike." Mama encourages Nasko to play with cars. Mama encourages Nasko to play on his keyboard. Mama discourages Nasko from climbing into the dryer. Mama discourages Nasko from tormenting Allen.
[By the way, Nasko was playing with his cars in the window ledge - see? I told you that they needed to be cleaned before he came home!]
7:15 - Nasko signs that he'd like to eat a popsicle. Mama has no clue what he's talking about. Nasko drags Mama to the freezer.

8:36 - Nasko spends one last moment in time-in for touching toys after Mama told him to go to bed.
9:05 - Nasko falls asleep.
