It's obvious that I inherited my looks from my mom's side of the family. I look just like my mother, my aunt, and my grandmother. My hair color seems to have come from my dad's side. It can be difficult to tell though, since he's bald!
When I get to organizing and list-making, I know I am practicing traits taught to me by my mother.
Unfortunately though, I received my ability to spell from my father.
Dad went to college for math and science. Apparently spelling wasn't important in those majors.
I went to school to work with babies. They can't spell.
It is sometimes very evident that Dad and I share this weakness. Let me give you an example from this evening:
Mom and Dad are in town to help take my grandma to doctors appointments, so Dad stopped by our house to bring us a few items. One of these items was a sweet gift for N., from members of my home church. The gift was a cute, stuffed moose (part of an inside joke - thank you, Howes!)
Our dog Allen was very interested in the stuffed toy (and its gift bag). My dad started telling Allen that the moose was for N. and was not to be added to his pile of squeak toys.
At one point, Dad attempted to refer to the moose without Allen knowing what he was talking about, so he spelled it. Incorrectly. M-O-U-S-E.
Like the rodent.
Then I tried to spell it. M-O-U-S-S-E.
Like the dessert.
Through the whole exchange, my loving husband was shaking his head in disbelief.
He did not inherit the inability to spell from his side of the family.
Oh well, it could have been worse. I could have inherited the baldness...
